The world of education, particularly in literacy, remains one of the most fundamental challenges in Eastern Indonesia. This issue is especially evident in the border areas of Indonesia and Timor Leste, specifically in the Belu district, Weluli.
Addressing this concern, Mario Leon, a Sabua Foundation representative for the East Nusa Tenggara Province, has joined the Terang Lakaan Literacy Community. This local community is dedicated to improving access to reading materials, which Mario noted is severely lacking in these areas.
“The Terang Lakaan Literacy Community aims to collect book donations, which are essential to broaden the horizons of the next generation living in neglected border areas,” said Mario.
He added,
“Our principle is to support one another. If we are fortunate enough to attend schools in urban areas, we must not forget those in remote villages. They need resources to gain knowledge like we have, even if they lack the opportunity to experience classrooms.”
